Biography

I am Professor of Microbiology and Director of the Spanish Type Culture Collection at the University of Valencia. I obtained the Degree of Licencitaura in Biological Sciences in 1987 and the Degree of Doctor in Biological Sciences in 1991, with Extraordinary Prize (1992). In April 1991 I obtained the post of Assistant Professor of the University and I completed postdoctoral training in the Microbiology Department of the Technical University of Munich in 1992 and three months in 1994. In March 1996, after taking possession of the I was part of the IATA, within the Department of Biotechnology, where I lead the research line of "Molecular Taxonomy". My research trajectory has focused on the development and application of PCR techniques in the detection and identification of microorganisms (bacteria, fungi and viruses) covering aspects of food quality, safety and functionality.
