Previously, A/Prof Wong trained at the Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, UK. She combined her clinical training with academic research and was awarded the prestigious Wellcome Trust Vision Research Fellowship to pursue and complete a PhD at the Institute of Ophthalmology, University College London in Professor Sir Peng T. Khaw’ laboratory. Associate Professor Wong is also holds adjunct faculty appointments at the National University Hospital System (NUHS) and the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Nanyang Technological University, where she is also co Director to the Ocular Therapeutic Engineering Centre (OTEC). Associate Professor Wong’s research interests lie in wound repair and discovering novel drug targets as well as the innovative application of materials science and engineering to develop cutting edge solutions to improve on current medical and surgical treatments in glaucoma and other ophthalmic diseases. Associate Professor Wong has published widely in these areas and has nationally funded research grants amounting to $5M. She holds 9 patents to her name, of which one particular patented technology has resulted in the award of the President’s Technology Award in Nov 2014. She co-founded a start-up company with this technology, which is now successfully moving towards commercialization. Associate Professor Wong has presented at numerous international scientific and ophthalmological meetings and has also been invited as a speaker at international conferences as well as academic institutes and universities. She co supervises PhD students from NTU and mentors junior clinician scientists in SNEC and SERI. She currently serves as chairperson on the SERI fundraising committee.
