Biography

Buchholz is an Adult Nurse Practitioner who synergistically engages in research, practice, teaching, and service, in order to improve the health of adults. She is a strong advocate for improving physical activity in the nation. The long-term goal of her research program is to develop cost-effective strategies to increase physical activity among sedentary adults. Within her research, she uses innovative mHealth strategies to promote physical activity. With her research, she is exploring how to optimize an adaptive intervention to improve physical activity for women in the workplace. She has conducted and published on her quantitative and qualitative research, including systematic reviews. Her faculty practice informs all aspects of her work, and is located at a clinic in northwest Indiana, where she provides primary care to underserved adults. She is an advisor in the Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Program. She provides interactive educational instruction both within the College of Nursing, teaching in primary care management and research courses, as well as being a preceptor for nurse practitioner students at her clinic. She continues to explore how to promote scholarly collaboration among DNP and PhD prepared nursing faculty.
