Biography

As the Co Head for Bioengineering and Devices for SERI, Adj Assoc Prof Perera has been tasked with developing this potential growth area. Holding positions on SERI’s Patent review committee and as a member of A*STAR’s Diagnostic Development hub, have led to a deep commitment to advancing commercialization in Singapore. Supported by both competitive research grants and industry collaborations, his main translational interests have led to three patents. Adj Assoc Prof Perera has been an invited lecturer for over 23 conferences and reviews manuscripts for the 5 main ophthalmic journals as well as being Associate Editor for Proceedings of Singapore Healthcare since 2012. Together with 3 book chapters, a selection of his peer-reviewed publications are listed here from a total of over 60. Being a full time clinician means he is involved with several interventional and investigative trails. He is involved in both initiating and recruiting for studies that span animal trials to large-scale phase I-III projects. The collaborations that result, draw in companies that range from small startups to the largest pharmaceutical multinationals. On the teaching side, Adj Assoc Prof Perera is a member of the Core Faculty for the SingHealth Ophthalmology Residency and is regularly involved in promoting research to the junior residents.
