Research Intrest

Our laboratory develops biomaterial platforms to probe and control mammalian cell behavior. Drawing upon design principles from chemistry, materials science and bioengineering, we engineer polymeric matrices possessing specific mechanical, biochemical and architectural properties that can elicit desired responses from mammalian cells. Specifically, these functionalized materials help guide the phenotype of cells for tissue engineering applications, serve as vehicles for drug delivery in therapeutic applications and help elucidate cell-matrix interactions in both normal and diseased states. Current efforts in our laboratory are focused on the development of complex hierarchical multi-functional materials for the controlled release of drugs, proteins and small molecules that can influence the fate of immune cells.
