Biography

Safa Al MustafaSafa Al Mustafa, PhD, MS, RN, is the chief nursing officer (CNO) for Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC), which is managed by Cleveland Clinic and serves as the flagship institution for SEHA's healthcare system. Mrs. Al Mustafa was appointed CNO in 2014, and brings more than 22 years of progressive nursing leadership experience to her position. She is responsible for developing the framework for the provision of safe, high quality, professional nursing and allied health programs and practices that encourage customer service, employee engagement, improved quality outcomes, financial accountability and growth of services. As part of her role, she works to ensure nursing staff members have the resources they need to perform their jobs to the best of their abilities. Mrs. Al Mustafa is the first Emirati national to take the role of chief nursing and allied health officer in SKMC, the largest tertiary healthcare facility in the UAE. Prior to her role as CNO, Mrs. Al Mustafa worked as a deputy chief nursing officer (DCNO), with direct supervision of various nursing units and areas, including general medical, rehabilitation, home health, outpatient specialty clinics and pediatric intensive care. She served as director of nursing at SKMC in various inpatient, outpatient and home health care settings for several years, as well as institute director of nursing for SKMC’s medicine and rehabilitation institutes. Her experience also includes assistant director of nursing in Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (Abu Dhabi), ambulatory care manager and wound care specialist at Al Jazeera & Central hospital, and work and training as an infection control nurse. Ms. Al Mustafa began her nursing career in 1991 as a staff nurse at Al-Ain hospital in the general surgical ward. She is heavily involved in the UAE bidding to hosting WUWHS (World Union for Wound Healing Societies) 2020. This is the world’s largest gathering of wound care professionals. Mrs. Al Mustafa is chairing the bidding team, which has worked for four years preparing for this event. The effort finally become fruitful in 2016 when Abu Dhabi, UAE won the bid to lead the high caliber event.
