Biography

Adj Asst Professor Daphne Han undertook her medical studies which was fully supported by an Australian Equity and Merit scholarship at the University of Melbourne, Australia, and graduated in 1997 with the degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery. She commenced her basic medical training in England in 1998, including a rotation as Neurosurgery medical officer at the prestigious Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge. She started Ophthalmology in South Thames in 1999, obtaining a coveted post in the King’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals ophthalmic rotation in the process. She became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (Ophthalmology) in 2003 and was conferred the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2008. She was admitted to the Academy of Medicine, Singapore as a fellow in 2009. She specializes in cataract surgery, including microincision phacoemulsification using premium intraocular lenses, and refractive surgery such as femtosecond LASIK, advanced surface ablation and implantable collamer lenses. She is a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, with regular presentations of current topics in cataract and refractive surgery for discussion at many international meetings. Adj Asst Professor Han has an interest in the management of myopia and is currently involved in animal research into novel therapy for progressive myopia at SERI, supported by a competitive National Medical Research Council grant.

Management of refractive errors, ocular development, anterior segment research and myopia progression.
