Biography

Dr. Meisel joined the Emory Department of Surgery after completing his pediatric surgery fellowship at Cohen Children's Medical Center/North Shore Long Island Jewish Hospital, New Hyde Park, NY. He received his MD at the University of Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and did his general surgery residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Dr. Meisel is an up and coming surgical scientist with a growing bibliography. His 2007-2009 post-doctoral research fellowship was conducted in Dr. Judah Folkman and Dr. Mark Puder's lab in the division of vascular biology of the Department of Pediatric Surgery, Boston Children's Hospital, where he studied parenteral nutrition-associated liver disease, the benefits of omega-3 fatty acids, and murine models of tissue regeneration. Dr. Meisel is the lead surgical representative to the Vascular Anomalies Clinic at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. This multidisciplinary clinic sees children with complex vascular malformations and tumors, is the only clinic of its kind in the Southeast and one of only a handful of such centers in the country, and serves as a national referral center for children who might otherwise not have access to the specialized care they require.
