Dr. McLaughlin is performing research on projects involving polymers, fluid mechanics, and reaction engineering: • Modeling of air filters for low pressure environments. Collaborator: Professor Suresh Dhaniyala. The project is supported by Pall Corporation. • Molecular dynamics modeling of dispersions of alkanes and asphaltenes in various liquids. Collaborators: Professor Marco Satyro, Leah Granger (undergraduate), Miao Luo (PhD student). The project is funded by Virtual Materials Group Inc. • Development of elastomers with improved strength over a larger temperature range and resistance to hydrogen sulfide penetration by molecular dynamics modeling. Collaborators: Miao Luo (PhD student), Professor Sitaraman Krishnan, and Dr. Ming Huang (GE.) The project is funded by GE Oil & Gas. • Modeling of chemical reactions in liquid plasma discharges. Collaborators: Xiangru Fan (PhD student) and Professor Selma Mededovic. The project is funded by the New York State Pollution Prevention Institute.
