Biography

Dr Edmund Wong is the Deputy Medical Director (Clinical Services) and a Senior Consultant with the Vitreo-Retinal Service at the Singapore National Eye Centre. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree in 1991. Dr Wong is the Principal Investigator in several studies of the retina involving diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment and age-related macular degeneration. His subspecialty training in diseases of the vitreous and retina with special focus on diabetic retinopathy at the Singapore National Eye Centre and Harvard Medical School have equipped him with a strong base to treat patients with diseases such as complicated diabetic eye disease, age-related macular degeneration and retinal detachment. He is well-experienced with state-of-art investigations, laser and surgery for the retina including sutureless, small-gauge vitrectomy. He is often invited to give lectures and demonstrations on retinal surgery regionally and internationally. In addition to diseases of the retina, Dr Wong also has a strong interest in Cataract surgery and uses the most current small incision phacoemulsification techniques and intraocular lenses after consideration of each individual’s special circumstances. Dr Wong believes that effective communication of findings, diagnosis, special features, and treatment options enhances a patient’s understanding of his or her unique condition and facilitates proper management.
