Biography

Dr. Elias Saqan is Professor of Civil Engineering and Chair of the Department of Civil Engineering at the American University in Dubai (AUD). He was promoted to this position in 2014 having previously served as Associate Professor of Civil Engineering. Prior to joining AUD in September 2006, he was Assistant Professor of Engineering at Birzeit University in the West Bank from 1996 to 2005. During that period he also worked for consulting companies and was active in the Association of Engineers providing continuing education courses. His expertise is in structural Engineering with emphasis on analysis and design of reinforced and precast/prestressed concrete structures, and earthquake Engineering. Dr. Saqan is a member of numerous professional associations and technical committees, including the American Concrete Institute, the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute, the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute, the American Institute of Steel Construction, and the American Society for Engineering Education. Dr. Saqan is the recipient of the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship for the academic year 2005-2006. During that period he was a Research Scholar with the School of Civil Engineering at Purdue University. He continues to publish his research in highly reputable journals, and was also the recipient of AUD's Provost Award for Outstanding Research for academic year 2008-2009, and AUD's President Award for Distinguished Service for academic year 2010-2011.
