Biography

I obtained my doctoral degree in Plant Science from the University of Nottingham in 2006. My research interests are micropropagation of local medicinal plants and manipulation of plant secondary products using tissue culture approaches. Till date, plant regeneration system of several medicinal plants including Melastoma decemfidum (Senduduk putih), Justicia gendarussa (Gandarussa) and Abrus precatorius (Akar saga) have been successfully established. Recently, a cDNA of polyketide synthase, pks from M. decemfidum has been cloned. Further studies such as characterization and cloning of the pks further elucidates its role in flavonoid biosynthesis.
