Professor Anesthesiology
Biography

Dr. Leshnower earned his MD from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and did his general surgery residency and cardiac surgery research fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. He also completed a fellowship in aortic surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and a fellowship in endovascular surgery at the Arizona Heart Institute. He joined the Emory Department of Surgery faculty after completing his Emory cardiothoracic surgery residency. His clinical specialties are thoracic aortic surgery, thoracic endovascular aortic repair, aortic valve replacement, and mitral valve repair/replacement and coronary artery bypass. In 2012, Dr. Leshnower became the first Emory surgeon to perform thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR). In coordination with colleagues from the Emory Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy, he has built the TEVAR service into one of the nation's top such programs in patient volume and quality. Dr. Leshnower's research interests include diseases of the thoracic aorta, clinical studies of patient outcomes following medical and surgical treatment of aneurysmal disease and aortic dissection, and basic science investigations of the pathophysiology of acute and chronic aortic dissection. In 2016, he was the first recipient of the Thoracic Surgery Foundation (TSF)/Southern Thoracic Surgical Association (STSA) Research Grant, which is funding his pilot study to determine the optimal cerebral protection strategy during aortic arch replacement.
