Jeff Boyd, Ph.D. holds an appointment as Professor (with tenure) and Chair of the Department of Human and Molecular Genetics, and Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. Dr. Boyd also joined the Miami Cancer Institute at Baptist Health South Florida in July, 2015 where he serves as director of Translational Research and as founding director of the Center for Genomic Medicine at the Institute. Previously (2008-2015), Dr. Boyd was a senior vice-president at the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, PA, an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, serving first as chief scientific officer and then founding executive director of the Cancer Genome Institute. He also served as chief of the Division of Molecular Pathology, and was a Professor (with tenure) in the Cancer Biology Program, holding the Robert C. Young, MD, Chair in Cancer Research. Before joining Fox Chase, Dr. Boyd was vice-president of oncology and research and director of the Anderson Cancer Institute at the Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, GA (2006-2008). He was also a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Surgery, Medicine, and Division of Basic Medical Sciences, as well as Assistant Dean for Research, at the Mercer University School of Medicine, Savannah. He was named a Distinguished Cancer Scholar by the Georgia Cancer Coalition of the State of Georgia. Dr. Boyd was recruited to Savannah from the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City (1997-2006), where he rose to the rank of Full Member (with tenure-of-title), serving as director of the Gynecology and Breast Research Laboratory in the Department of Surgery, and director of the Diagnostic Molecular Genetics Laboratory in the Department of Medicine. Prior to MSKCC, he held faculty positions at the University of Pennsylvania and the National Institutes of Health. After receiving a BS degree from Duke University in Durham, NC, and MS and PhD degrees from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC, Dr. Boyd completed postdoctoral training in the Department of Pathology and Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, NC. Dr. Boyd’s translational research interests have long been in the genetics and molecular genetics of gynecologic and breast cancers, which have been supported by over $25 million in NIH or NIH-equivalent peer-reviewed grants. In addition, he served as principal investigator of an NCI ovarian cancer SPORE grant. His clinical interest is in the molecular diagnostics of cancer, most recently using next-generation sequencing technology to inform the prevention and targeted treatment of cancer. He has co-authored over 200 original articles, reviews, book chapters, and editorials, and presented over 150 invited lectures nationally and internationally. Dr. Boyd has extensive peer-review experience, serving as a standing member of study sections for the NIH, DOD, and ACS, as well as numerous ad hoc appointments, and served on the editorial boards of six scientific and clinical journals. In addition to many committee and board memberships, he is currently Chair of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.
