Barbara Johnson brings a reality-based approach to teaching social work curriculum, through service-learning, group projects, case examples, and interaction with community-based agencies. Her 24-year social work career has included children’s residential care placements; acute, long-term, home health, and hospice medical facilities; counseling; and school settings. She maintains consulting contracts with area acute-care hospitals and several skilled nursing facilities, which enables her to bring in “real time” cases and keep up to date on policy, procedural, and legal changes in areas of practice that affect the social work profession. Additionally, her relationships with community-based agencies enable students to make professional contacts that may benefit everyone involved.
