The surgeon ophthalmologist Thanassis Oikonomou of John and Vasiliki, was born in 1975 in Thessaloniki. He graduated from the 3rd General Lyceum of Serres and in 1994 he was admitted to the Military College of Officers. Six years later he graduated from the Medical School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. and the SASA. and he was sworn in by the Health Officer of the Greek Police. In 2001 he was transferred to the Athens Central Clinic of the Greek Police, where he participated in the outpatient program for 2 years. During this time he was seconded as a Doctor of the School to the Department of Probationary Officers of Sitia and Naoussa. In August 2003 he began his specialization in Ophthalmology at the Department of Ophthalmology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. in GnF AHEPA in Thessaloniki where he completed in 4 years.
He specialized in refractive surgery (laser) at BEMM of the University of Crete under Professor Ioannis Pallikaris and in the Department of Refractive Surgery and Corneatics of Moorfields Eye Hospital in London as a refractive surgery fellow. Since March 2008 he has worked as a curator and recently as Director of the Ophthalmology Department of the Thessaloniki Central Clinic of the Greek Police at the Police Building. Since 2010 he has been a scientific associate in the corneal surgery of the First University Ophthalmological Clinic of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. in GnF AHEPA. Since May 2009, he has maintained a private clinic on 71 Ermou Street and after August 2013 the clinic was transferred to Aristotelous Street 4 in the center of Thessaloniki. In November 2014, he enrolled a Ph.D. at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki completing with excellent the dissertation titled: The Role of Corneal Pachemetry in Glaucoma. From 2015 he is an elected member of the Board of Directors of the Ophthalmological Society of Northern Greece.
