Biography

 In 1966 he received the Bachelor of Medicine from the Boston University School of Medicine. He served as an internal assistant at Framingham Union Hospital - Mass USA for one year. As an in-house assistant he was trained in Surgery, Pathology, Neurology, Obstetrics, Gynecology, Pediatrics. He was trained in Ophthalmology as an internal assistant (1967-1970) at the Pittsburgh Eye and Ear Hospital at Pittsburgh University, Pittsburgh Penn USA. During his 36-month period of specialization he served rotatively in various parts of the ophthalmology center, such as the department of strabismus and pediatric ophthalmology, external diseases, retinal section and underlying conditions, glaucoma section and part of the pathology of the eye. In the last year of his surgical training, he performed 255 surgeries and helped with another 480. After taking a specialty in ophthalmology, in June 1970, he was appointed as a lecturer at Cornell University in New York, where he specialized in corneal diseases and surgery, and in particular transplantation cornea, under the supervision of Professor Stuart Brown. His research work on corneal burns and mainly alkaline was pioneering. His experimental and clinical work with soft contact lenses was used by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to issue these marketing authorizations to the U.S. In 1970, after examinations at the Athens Medical School, he received his diploma with honors. In 1971 he recognized the specialty of Ophthalmology in Greece. In 1972, he was elected a lecturer at Cornell University in New York and took over the direction and teaching of the New York Hospital's Internal Ophthalmologists, as well as the lecture of the Ophthalmology course at Cornell University Medical School students. Following strict oral and written examinations, he obtained a diploma from the American Board of Ophthalmology.

 Surgeon Ophthalmologist, Scientific Director,  - Assistant Professor at Cornell University, New York  - Doctor of the University of Athens  - Specialist in corneal diseases and surgery, corneal transplants, cataract surgery and refractive surgery. Assistant Professor Michael Tragakis was born in Plomari, Lesvos and after graduating from the Gymnasium of Plomari, he continued his university studies at the University of Boston, Massachusetts, USA. (Boston University 1958). Along with the medical studies he studied at the chemistry department of the same university where he received the Chemistry Degree (1962).
