Biography

 Surgeon ophthalmologist George Tomas was born in Athens. She studied at the medical school of the University of Ioannina, from which she graduated in 1992, receiving annual state scholarships. He worked as an assistant in the Emergency Department of the General State Hospital of Athens for six months. He served his military service as a Doctor of the Coastal Unit in Samos, while during the rural service he worked for three years as an assistant of the Overseas Ophthalmology Clinic of the General Hospital of Agrinio. At the same time, he taught the subject of Ophthalmology at the Agrinio Secondary Professional School. He obtained the title of Specialty in Ophthalmology in 2001, after four years of specialization at the General Hospital "Polyclinic of Athens", specializing in Cataract and Glaucoma surgery. He was trained for six months in the Orthopedic Study and Strabismus of the Hagia Sophia Children's Hospital.  He successfully participated in the international competition organized by Tufts University of the United States. with the subject: "Innovations in the Glaucoma Treatment". He has attended the Observership, the Clinical and Surgical Department of Glaucoma at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, under Dr. Keith Barton, and the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary New York department under Professor Robert Ritch. He has been trained in the application of Trabectome (electromechanical glaucoma surgery) at the New York Presbyterian Hospital. He has completed the Fellowship in Advanced Photorefractive Surgery, under Dr. Michalis Magoulas for the correction of myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism using Excimer Laser. Under the supervision of Professor of Ophthalmology Michalis Moschos, he developed his doctoral thesis entitled "Correlation of the central thickness of the cornea with the image of the optic disc and the periander of the area in healthy, glaucoma and ophthalmic hypertonic patients", and in 2009 he unanimously declared Doctor of the University Athens with excellent grade. From October 2001 to May 2016, he worked at the ORASIS Hellenic Ophthalmology Center, with a special focus on Cataract and Glaucoma, as well as the placement of single or multifocal intraoculars for the correction of myopia, hyperopia and presbyopia, and from June 2016 is a member of the medical team of the LASER VISION Ophthalmology Center. He has written or participated in a large number of clinical studies, most of which have been published in Greek journals. He is a member of the Hellenic Ophthalmology Society (Hellenic Society of Endocardium Lenses and Refractive Surgery) and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ESCRS), with active participation in a large number of conferences, seminars and tutorials both in Greece and abroad.
