Biography

 He is a graduate of the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He has completed both basic ophthalmology training and clinical fellowship in corneal surgery in Britain at the famous Bristol University Clinic of Ophthalmology. A scholar of the State Scholarship Foundation (IKY) after a successful exam in an open competition, was awarded a Doctor of Medicine, DMed, and then a Clinical Lecturer at the British University of Bristol. The subject of his doctoral dissertation was related to corneal transplantation . Α Returning to Greece after his 7 years of education and specialization abroad, he continued his academic career as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Medical School of the University of Thessaly, wanting to offer his place of origin. With his own personal work, he has pioneered the nursing of the University Ophthalmology Clinic and has also established and managed the first corneal transplantation unit in central Greece. Today Dr. K. Karabatsas is activated in the private sector by examining and operating his patients at the LASERVISION Ophthalmology Institute while continuing his academic activity from the position of Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Department of Optics and Optometry at the Athens University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Prof. K. Karabatsas has a rich writing experience in international literature with an active participation in more than 300 scientific papers, presentations, speeches, awards, and has developed international collaborations with ophthalmological centers abroad through multi-center studies. At the same time, he has participated as a trainer in a variety of teaching courses during Greek and international conferences. His clinical studies of corneal transplantation, corneal diseases, glaucoma and laser refractive surgery have gained worldwide recognition and a wealth of references in international literature. He was also a member of the world's first team who successfully treated the keratitis from a spatula, a very dangerous parasitic infection that can lead to blindness. She has a special surgical experience, having performed a very large number of ophthalmologic procedures, and has trained Greek and foreign ophthalmologists in various surgical techniques. He is a member of editorial committees in 7 foreign magazines and 4 in Greek. And judge in 9 international magazines. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, elected General Secretary of the Hellenic Corneal Society, and elected member of the Board of the Greek College of Ophthalmology.
