Dr. Billett received her MD from Harvard Medical School in 1984. After completing a residency in pediatrics at the University of Washington Hospitals, she completed a fellowship in pediatric hematology-oncology at Children's Hospital Boston and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and became a staff physician in the pediatric hematology/oncology program in 1990. She was the medical director of the inpatient oncology service at Children's Hospital
