Emilio D. Poggio, MD, is a Staff in the Department of Nephrology and Hypertension of the Glickman Urological and Kidney Institute at Cleveland Clinic. He also has joint appointments in the Transplant Center, Cleveland Clinic, and the Department of Immunology at Lerner Research Institute. Dr. Poggio is board-certified in Nephrology and Hypertension. His clinical practice focuses on the care of subjects with kidney disease, specifically kidney and pancreas transplant candidates and recipients, and those with kidney disease following nonrenal organ transplantation. Dr. Poggio has several major areas of clinical and translational research and has published and lectured about these topics: Assessment of kidney function (glomerular filtration rate) in health and in disease, Outcomes of living kidney donors and transplant recipients, Living donor kidney factors that relate to outcomes for transplant recipients and the development of tools to risk-stratify patients based on pre-transplantation data, Development of novel cellular immune-monitoring techniques in the setting of organ transplantation.
Dr. Poggio participates in several NIH-sponsored multi center studies aimed at various aspects of the field of kidney transplantation.
