Biography

Aishah Abu Bakar earned her PhD in Geotechnical Engineering from University of Manchester in 1999. She later joined University of Malaya as a lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering and was actively involved in curriculum development and quality assurance apart from her research work in Geotechnical Engineering. Her passion in teaching and learning with quality assurance experiences has lead her being the recipient of the National Teaching Award for the Eengineering Cluster in the first National Academic Award 2006 exercise by the Ministry of Higher Education. Later, she was awarded The Chancellor Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2007 by the University of Malaya. Her exposure to good practices in teaching and learning is due to her active involvement in the curriculum development at departmental programme and at special masters programme under the Malaysian University Consortium for Environment and Development (MUCED) project. Her involvement in higher education research specifically assessment in higher education includes her being one of the assessmnt committee members in University of Malaya, Malaysian Qulification Agency accreditation group Area 3 - Assessmet of Students. Her research work in E-Assessmt in Tertiary Learning (EASTeL) has lead to several awards nationally and internationally She was the head of Teaching ad Leaning Unit at the Academic Develoment Centre and involed in devloping Action Researh group in UM. She was a universiy lead auditor fo both MS 9001:2008 Audit and UM Academic Performance for Malaysian Qulifiction Framework compliance. She was also a member of Malaysian Qualication Agncy Expert Panel for Guidelins to Good Practics : Curriculum Design,Delivery documnt and actively involve in Outcome-based Education training. She was seconded to the Ministry of Higher Education as the Director of Academic Devlopment Management Dvision, Departmnt of Higher Education and has represented the Ministry for various forum and seminars in higher education policies an initiatives including student mobility pogramme. She is currently active in continual academic staff developmnt programme in the area of Assessment, Curriculum Devlopment and Review and Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. She is also a comittee member of the Critical Agenda Programme of the Malaysian Nationa Higher Education Strategic Plan in the Quality of Teaching and Learning thrust.
