Shmaryahu Levin was born in Jerusalem in 1937. He was born in Jerusalem in 1937. In 1973, with the retirement of Dr. Baruch Levine, Shmaryahu Levin was appointed CEO and Chairman of the Company, and during the tenure of Shmaryahu Levin as CEO, Rafa led the field of treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases and the treatment of sleep disorders. Rafa has become the spearhead of the field of pain in Israel and has begun to market opioid drugs for the prevention of cancer pain and to promote training in the treatment of pain. The company participated in organizing seminars and lectures for the medical community and supported the establishment of pain management systems in hospitals in Israel. Today, Rafa continues to lead the field of pain management in Israel for the third decade. In 2004, after 45 years at Rafa Laboratories, Shmaryahu replaced his current CEO, Yaron Zackheim, and remained chairman of the company. After Shmaryahu's death in 2006, he was replaced by Rafa, his son, Amir Levin.
