Romania
The first time I came to Romania from Australia was in 2005 with an organization called Global Volunteer Network (GVN) after I googled orphanages/volunteer programs. Prior to this I don’t recall having even heard of Romania, but I fell in love with the place as soon as I read about it. Since then no other country has captured my heart like Romania has, despite my attempts to visit and volunteer in other places. I remember not wanting to leave the disabled orphanage I was working at in Nicoresti (Romania’s North-east) during my first visit, but my three month visa had run out and my funds were diminishing. Nine years later (in 2014) I finally returned. This time to Brasov and FFR, where I had the chance to once again work with orphans who have disabilities.
